From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to begin their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing started the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.
Casimir then settled his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each character has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- The adventurer knows the northern area and advises that it is a nasty location.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the group access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Additionally, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and Wicander defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in search of the traitor.
