Fall Classic Game 7 Draws 51 Million Audience Members Across the United States, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The thrilling extended matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a aggregate over 50 million spectators in the US, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB reported this marks the most-watched Fall Classic finale since the 1991 showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Breakdown

The Saturday memorable contest averaged 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series matchup after the 2017 edition final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the last finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked 4th, the fourth game was 7th, Game 5 came in 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth position.

Global Audience Numbers

In Canada, the game drew over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language program in the country since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest began at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12 million. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – recorded over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Totals and Patterns

The entire seven-match World Series drew over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on Univision, the complete US viewership reached 16.1 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels drew 8.09 million watchers, an 8% rise over the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance after 2017.

MLB stated that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by 44 media partners in 16 different tongues.
